Local Government Capacity Building Workshop on Making Cities Resilient in Tunisia

The three day workshop aims to further develop the capacities of more than 20 local and regional government officials from 15 governorates in Tunisia on disaster risk reduction. The workshop further aims to equip them with the necessary tools on how to integrate disaster risk reduction in city planning and local development.
The workshop will be conducted over a period of three days and will concentrate on the following topics:
- General understanding of the major hazards that threaten Tunisia
- Establishing a common understanding on Disaster Risk Reduction
- Introduction of the disaster risk reduction efforts at the National level and its integration at the local level
- Recalling on the World Disaster Reduction Campaign on Making Cities Resilient.
- Building capacity using the tools available by the campaign to assist municipalities in implementing the ten essentials for making cities resilient; as well as compile a first assessment.
- Introducing the UNISDR Scorecard for cities and acquire a general understanding of local level risk assessment
- Opportunity for city representative officials to share learning’s and encourages new partnerships.
- The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction and the Third World Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction (WCDRR) and its implications for local governments;
- Priorities and changes needed for Sendai Framework implementation.
Attendance is by invitation only for local government representatives from selected Tunisian governorates.
