Under the Arab Cities Disaster Resilience Project implemented by UNDP, UNISDR and SDC, a city to city exchange was organized to expose local and national authorities to best practices on urban disaster risk reduction. In coordination with UNESCO-IHE the event took place June 1-3 and brought together the cities of Delft, Rotterdam, and Dordecht (Netherlands) with Ain Darahm ( Tunisia), and Saida ( Lebanon).

The purpose of the exchange was to :

  • Identify the participating cities' complementary strengths and weaknesses based on the new ten essentials of the Making Cities Resilient campaign.
  • To develop concrete steps for improvements within the scope of selected essentials, based on the presented strengths and weaknesses.
  • To provide hands-on experience on how to develop tailored actions using the ten essentials as guiding principles.
  •  To assess (quick-scan) future training and capacity building needs for cities.
  •  To identify the role and place of a learning platform to accommodate those needs.
